Important Changes to the New Zealand Traveller Declaration

North Travel wishes to advise all our clients that the New Zealand Government has made significant changes to the New Zealand Traveller Declaration (NZTD) arrivals card process. Please see below:

Arriving by Air Transport

Effective Wednesday 23rd August 2023 – all New Zealand airports will process passengers who have completed a digital New Zealand Traveller Declaration (NZTD).

  • The digital NZTD is available through a mobile phone app which is available for Apple™ and Android™ devices.

  •  In the interim paper arrival cards will continue to be available and are still accepted for passengers who choose to complete a paper arrival card .

  •  NZTD aims to digitise border clearance processes to enable more efficient processing of passengers at the NZ Border

  • All passengers, including children and infants, require their own NZTD (mirroring existing paper arrival cards which are required for every individual)

For more information, please visit the New Zealand Traveller Declaration (NZTD) website or watch the video below.

Arriving by Sea/Ocean Vessel

Travellers to New Zealand entering by sea are not currently required to complete a digital NZTD.

  • The New Zealand Traveller Declaration system is currently being trialled with some sea travellers at Auckland and Tauranga ports, during August 2023.

  • Sea travellers will need to complete a digital declaration from these dates:

    • Small craft, commercial, cargo, sovereign immunity, fishing, and specialist vessels from late August 2023.

    • Cruise liners travellers (including crew) from 31 October 2023.

    • New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) vessels from 31 October 2023.

  • More details will be provided by the New Zealand Government in relation to the NZTD arrival by sea in late August 2023.
